Linoleum block printing

Grade 5 has been working on linoleum block printing during art classes. They carved their own block using a variety of gouges. Then they used water based printing inks to make multicolored prints in style of Andy Warhol.

Great job!

Planches ACIM

Grades 2 to 5 have worked on "Planches ACIM", which are somewhat backbones of a fairy tale, a sort of plan for the tale. Grades 2 and 3 created tales and grades 4 and 5 had to find what the tale was : Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, Little Red Riding Hood. After this, grades 4 and 5 wrote stories that was inspired by a "planche ACIM". They were able to share their different experiences.

The "Planche ACIM" was a pedagogical tool that the teachers discovered when they followed professional development days back in January in Montreal.

Les Châteaux de la Loire

The students of CM1 and CM2 were treated to a presentation on one of the Châteaux de la Loire by one of their peers. They have been studying François 1er and the Renaissance in History class and the student, Matélo, presented the castle of Blois. Indeed, this student is French and used to live in Blois. The class was able to see pictures of the different parts of the castle with explanations by our expert student!
His peers were very interested by the presentation and asked him many questions on the castle as well as school and life in France.
Merci et bravo Matélo!

May 6th School Carnival is cancelled...

Unfortunately, due to the downpours coming our way on Friday and Saturday, we have to cancel the School Carnival...it would not be fun for anyone!

But don't worry, it will be rescheduled on June 17th, same time with a rain date on June 16th from 2 to 6pm. Hopefully, the weather in June will treat us much better!

Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.

The GS and CP have been working on Medieval times and they started building a castle a little while ago. Recycling cardboard boxes and different recyclable items, they have been working up a storm and created this amazingly beautiful castle.

Here a few pictures of the process:

A la manière de Kandinsky

The PS and MS have been inspired by Wassily Kandinsky in their latest project. They have been working on oblique lines with Dasha and the result is amazing! With the help of little arrows showing directions (up, down), a little colored paint...et voilà!

Bravo les enfants!

Presentation on birds with Marshall Iliff

On April 28th, Marshall Iliff came to school to talk about birds.

He went to the Preschool class first with an owl, an owl's wing, a few other skulls and taxidermied birds and shared his passion about birds.

There was a presentation to the rest of the students at the Community Hall during which he talked about fascinating birds with very colorful feathers and very unique moves. He brought recordings of bird's songs and taught students some of the songs (barn owl, chickadee...). After the presentation, it was time to explore and observe in real life at the Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary.

Marshall brought along bird guides, binoculars, telescope, recordings of songs and a speaker. After having observed an Eastern phoebe's nest, he placed the speaker in a tree and played some of the birds' songs. The chickadees started flying around, it was amazing! Students shared binoculars to be able to observe them with more precision. They walked arounds the woods to see more birds. Some groups even saw an hawk!

Thank you so much Marshall for sharing your time and passion with us today! What a great gift it was!
