"How to fly a paper plane?" in English class

In English class, students kicked off the 'How to' Unit by making paper airplanes. Each student followed directions to make their own plane and then flew them in class!

During this unit, students will read various 'How to' books including How to Babysit a Grandpa and How to Write a Story.

Then, students will brainstorm a list of things that they could teach someone else how to do. This is very exciting as students embrace the concept that they are all experts at something.

Then students will choose one topic and they will write their own 'How to' book!

Throughout the unit, the class will be doing some fun activities along the way such as bouncing an egg, how to tie a shoe, and how to draw an animal. English class is always fun at EFDM!

Mouton marron...

The PS and MS have been working on an Eric Carle's album called "Ours blanc". Inspired by this story, they have created their own story with the animals of the farm. They created the animals on pages that would constitute their own book at the end.
Today, they went in the different classrooms to tell their story. It was a wonderful moment to witness, older students were very impressed by their work and the little ones were so proud to share their work.

Parents were also invited to listen to the story. Bravo les petits!

Building an electricity game in science

The CE1 and CE2 have been studying electricity in science. Today, they build a game using a shoe box, a battery, alligator clip electrical clamps, bulb, metallic cable and a pen. They followed an electrical circuit. The goal is to bring the pen from point A to point B without touching the metal thread or the lightbulb will light up.

Success! :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

To celebrate Valentine's Day, our students decorated heart-shaped sugar cookies made by one mum, Joy Guliani! Each student had 3 different cookies, a big heart, a medium heart and a fancy heart. We had a huge variety of sprinkles and icing to decorate them, so many choices! Thank you for the donations that were made!

Students of different grades decorated at the same time, older students giving a hand to younger students to spread icing and pour sprinkles. The children had a wonderful time decorating together. Thank you also to the volunteer parents who made sure the bowls of decorations were flowing and who helped children.

Thank you Joy for the delicious cookies!

 Even teachers tried...

What a fun activity it was! Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!
