Snow Art!

To follow our marble cake cooking day, the students combined science with art and made marbled snow-painted paper. Pre-k ripped up colored tissue paper and placed it on sheets of white card stock. Students put snow on top of the colored paper and watched as it melted. After a weekend of the water evaporating, we were left with dried tissue paper that had bled its color onto the white paper. We pulled the dried, colored paper off to reveal beautifully colored marbled artwork! 

Winter Walk

Earlier this week, the Maternelle enjoyed a wonderful winter walk to see all the changes that happened with the landscape this season.  Students observed plants, animals and their tracks, objects  in nature, like snowmen! We had beautiful weather and even felt a little warm by the end of our walk!

Week 1 Read-a-thon

Breaking News: All students in Grades 2-6 read every night last week for 20 minutes or more!  Bravo!  Kelly couldn't be prouder of this record breaking first week. :)

The English Read-a-thon is here!

Every year at EFDM, students in English class participate in a reading contest.  The 2nd Grade class, the 3rd Grade class, and the 4th/5th/6th Grade class will compete against each other to find out which class can read the most in one month's time.  Students work together along with their classmates.  The goal for the contest is for all students to read each night for 20 minutes!

The contest is off to a great start as Week 1 is well underway! Please check the English bulletin board for weekly updates.

Welcome Lauriane and Romain!

We are delighted to welcome Romain and Lauriane, our student teachers from France, to EFDM! They arrived last weekend Boston Logan airport and were warmly welcomed by their host families, John and Stephanie Brewer and Jeremy and Caroline Foust-Wright. 

We are very grateful to have Lauriane and Romain for the next 2 weeks. 

A big thank you to the Brewer Family and the Wright Family for welcoming Lauriane and Romain into their home.  Merci!

Recess enjoyment

Recess is incredibly fun at EFDM no matter the weather!  We certainly have been enjoying the warm weather we have had!

A celebration of 'Bretagne'

Students in CE1/CE2 took an exciting trip to Bretagne at school this week.  Along with learning eabout this historical province, students had a special art project celebrating the wardrobe from Bretagne.
Students made either 'une coiffe de bigoudène' or a 'un chapeau de breton'.

The GS-CP went on a treasure hunt!
They had to solve riddles, do crossword puzzles, find and try all different possible combination of a lock, locate clues on a school map... They used their knowledge in reading, maths and science and wonderful team work to get to the treasure!
This was a lot of fun! Bravo les aventuriers!

Suzuki Private Music Lessons

It's always a treat to see how our creative students play and work together at recess.  The snow always brings us a new canvas for our artists to enjoy.

La Chandeleur

On the second of February, France celebrated its national holiday of crêpe making "La Chandeleur".  This ancient celebration marks the possible end of winter and the return of light. To mark this event, the entire nation heads to the kitchen to celebrate the oncoming of spring by making crêpes. Willy LeBihan, Founder of L'École Française du Maine, embraced his Brittany origins, the region of France famous for their crêpes, as he prepared over 100 crêpes for the students. Everyone, teachers included, enjoyed eating crêpes last Friday !
