Bienvenue à Dahlila Hadjeras

L'Ecole Française du Maine is thrilled to welcome Dahlila  Hadjeras to its faculty in the grade 2/3 classroom in the fall 2015.
Dahlila was born in Besançon in the east of France in Franche-Comté. After completing high school, she began her studies in geology until changing gears to work in the Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse in the south west of France. There, for the next 4 years, she led educational workshops on the solar system for students from ages 6 to 11. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Education and passed the national teaching exam in Versailles to become a fully certified teacher. She then taught elementary school for 8 years in Hauts de Seine, just outside of Paris in Boulogne-Billancourt. She loves the versatility of the teaching profession and has a particular interest in teaching science with an emphasis on experimentation using the scientific method. She also enjoys theatre and she loves ancient civilizations and Greek mythology particularly. Dahlila is a physically active person. She has played volleyball and practiced Savate / French boxing, for several years. She likes to discover different cultures and enjoys learning languages. She is currently learning literary Arabic. She cannot wait to discover Maine, its restaurants, beautiful landscapes and its inhabitants.

End of Year Family Picnic at Winslow Park 6/5/2015

Another great school year is winding down and what better way to part for the summer than with a Family Barbecue? Thanks to the many volunteers who made the event such a success. While the teachers were playing field games with the kids, the parents were busy cooking hamburgers and hot dogs, slicing watermelon and setting up for lunch. Meanwhile, Joelle Morris and Peter Dugas, music faculty of the school, were braving the weather to gear up for a performance of French songs by artists such as Edith Piaf and Charles Trenet. This was no small accomplishment as the cold and wind made it quite a challenge, but these professionals still pulled it off (with breaks to warm up in the car)!  The students even joined in for a couple of songs - Bravo ! Dancing was also part of the fun. Everyone had plenty to eat and there were plenty of smiles all around- Merci beaucoup!! Thanks for coming, it was a great turnout despite the chilly temperature, and thanks for making the day so memorable!

Teaching outside the classroom in Maine !

What will our students remember, 20 years from now, of their last few weeks of elementary school in June 2015?
How about a fun day biking with their English teacher ? Exploring the beautiful shores of Wolfe Neck peninsula in Freeport-Maine?  Visiting the farm ?  Organizing a hermit crab race?
We hope these special moments will make it through time :-)

Special gratitude to our teachers and chaperones who helped create these childhood memories.
