Thanksgiving baskets...

This morning, our students brought Thanksgiving baskets to the Freeport Community Center for families in need.
We want to give a huge MERCI to all who donated so many items, gift cards, potatoes and onions, pie crusts, gravy and so much more. Merci also to the PA volunteers who donated precious time to organize and assemble all these beautiful baskets.

The children were very excited to bring the baskets to the Community Center and were welcomed very warmly by the staff.

Thank you again for such a wonderful school community. It is a tradition dear to our hearts. We surely do beautiful things when we all come together.

Greek presentation by the CM1

Today in English class, 4th Grade students made a presentation to all English classes at EFDM about Greek Mythology.

During this unit of study, students first read about the Gods and Goddesses of Mount Olympus and looked at the family tree. Then, students read a variety of Greek Myths together including The Chariot of the Sun, Pandora’s Box, Persephone and the Seasons, and The Story of Arachne.

                                                                          ARTEMIS

                                                                           ZEUS

                                                                      APHRODITE

                                                                   HEPHAESTUS

                                                                           ATHENA

Students learned that the Greeks, who lived thousands of years ago, had wonderful stories to tell about gods, goddess, monsters, and heroes. They believed the gods and goddesses lived all around them, in the fields and woods, in the sea, under the ground and in great palaces among the towering peaks of Mount Olympus. These stories that they told, or myths, were created to explain natural events in the world like the setting of the sun and the changing of the seasons. They were about gods who controlled the elements of nature. The myths told tales about powerful Olympian gods, sea gods, woodland gods, sky gods, underwater gods, half-gods, human heroes, courageous or romantic adventures, betrayals, battles, wanderings, and so on.

After reading many myths, students in Grade 4 chose a god or goddess to study. They researched their chosen god or goddess, and read more myths about them.

Today, they presented themselves to all English classes, sharing the information they learned. We heard presentations from Madeleine who was Artemis, Judah who was Zeus, Matelo who was Hephaestus, Mia who was Aphrodite, and Lyla who was Athena.

Next week, students will write their own Greek Myth! Stay tuned!

Otto Zitko et gribouillis chez les petits...

The PS and MS discovered the artist Otto Zitko in art class. The artist is famous for his "gribouillages". The children let their pens, pencils or paintbrush run on the paper.

The results are amazing. Come check them out in the hallway!

Jeux de maths avec les CM2

The CM2 played a math game, "La Machine à tri ". In this game, the students had to think as a computer. The machine classifies numbers from smallest to biggest. They had to be the brain of the machine.

They had a number written on their white board and through indications, they had to cross paths a few times (one direction if smaller number , another director if bigger number than your neighbor).

In the end, they had to have crossed and sit in the right order, from smallest to biggest number.

A la poste...

The GS and CP trot a first letter to their French penpals, a class of CP in Chailles, near Blois.

The children dictated a letter to Yassine to present the school, their class and our celebration of Halloween.

Then, the wrote a legend photos with a short introduction for each of them : Je m'appelle...J'ai 5 ans...Je suis déguisé(e) en...

We talked about mail : putting the letter in an envelop, writing the address, going to the Post Office, buying a stamp, giving the letter to the mail man/woman...

Now they are really looking forward to receiving an answer!
