The preschool class took their teddy bears on a trip to the hospital on Thursday. The teddy bears suffered a range of illnesses and boo-boos, but in the caring hands of the Mid Coast caregivers, all was soon well and all of the teddy bears were completely cured! There was entertainment to welcome the group, the children left with some keepsakes, and there were plenty of smiles all around. Moms and Dads joined the group and the children got to experience how going to the hospital does not have to be a scary thing. Thanks to Mid Coast Hospital for inviting us, and to the parent chaperones, not only for their company, but for capturing this special day in these lovely photos.

Dental health in Kindergarten with Dr. Debbie Bernier

The kindergarten classroom had a special guest speaker: Dr Debbie Bernier, parent of a student at school. Debbie, a dentist / orthondonthist, explained (with the help of her assistant, Emily), how and why we need to take good care of our teeth. The puppets and various props were a lot of fun ! They had teeth just like ours and they showed us how to brush and flush properly to care for our teeth.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.

It sure is lovely to feel appreciated, and turns out it's tasty too! Heartfelt thanks go to the Parents Association for the delicious lunch provided for all of the staff on Friday, May 8th.
It was such a treat to have the lunch in the staff room and to eat it outside!. We are all so lucky to work with families as wonderful and thoughtful as you!
Merci beaucoup!

Ben and Me

Students in Grade 5 recently read the novel Ben and Me which is about Ben Franklin and a mouse named Amos. Students had to recreate a chapter from the book in a 3D format. Along with the 3D representation of the chapter, students also had to rewrite the chapter they choose from the point of view of Ben Franklin. While reading this novel, students also created crossword puzzles with vocabulary words from the book and reviewed key events from the Revolutionary War.

So much fun at the 2015 Carnival

The Annual Spring Carnival was a ton of fun! Thanks to all of our parents and teachers for your hard work, enthusiasm and generosity! Each year, the Carnival continues to grow, and we had a great crowd again this year. The whole day is about the kids, and they sure had a marvelous time. The food, the games, the raffle baskets, the rummage sale, the set up and clean up, - all went smoothly, thanks to you! A special thanks to Cécile Williams for coordinating our efforts, she did a wonderful job!
Also many thanks to Stephanie Brewer for sharing all of her expertise.
This is a great tradition, and ours is a great community! Merci beaucoup!

Portland Museum of Art en français !

The kindergarten and grade 1 students went to the Portland Museum of Art. They viewed artworks in 2 and 3 dimensions, figurative and abstract works, paintings of landscapes and portraits, sculptures in marble, stone, and wood (that was painted or burned), and plastic with glitter and even black and white photography! They learned a lot about the life of the artists, their approach to their work, and all the effort that goes into putting up and taking down the displays in the museum. The children had the opportunity to ask plenty of questions, and they shared their many interpretations of the artwork they saw. It was inspiring! Thanks so much to our wonderful (French-speaking!) guides. It was a wonderful visit.
