The time has finally arrived for the English Read-a-Thon! This is an exciting competition where each class competes as a team against the other English classes. Every year the contest has been extremely close.
On Friday January 6 information was sent home about the English Read-a-thon. Kelly has also gone over the information with the children during class.
The reading contest began on Monday January 9. Reading logs for each week go home every Monday. Students read 20 minutes per school night and log their reading on their log sheet that parents sign each day. Reading logs are due back to school the following Monday.
This is a great opportunity to foster a love of reading and to establish the routine of reading in English 20 minutes daily, outside of school. The Read-a-thon will last one month, but hopefully, this routine of reading will continue throughout the rest of the school year.
Although reading to your child is special, it is nice to use this opportunity to have your child read independently or to you.
The contest will last for one month. The winning class will be announced during the week of February 6th along with the contest prize!
Here are the results as of today, Wednesday January 18th...very very close!
Keep reading and having fun, children!
