Grandparents and Special Friends Day on October 3rd

On October 3rd, grandparents and special friends are invited to the school to visit their grand child/special friend's classroom and participate in activities. A light luncheon will be served for the guests after their time spent in the classrooms.


It is a wonderful opportunity for them to see the children engage in the classroom activities and speak French!

Vole vole petit papillon....

The GS and CP have been observing the different stages between a caterpillar and a butterfly. they started the school year by having monarch caterpillars in the classroom. They also studied in parallel Eric Carle's The Hungry Caterpillar. What a chance to witness this wonderful transformation in real time!

The "chenille" became a "chrysalide" and then today, the "papillon" got out of its chrysalis, took some time to spread and dry his wings. When it was time, the students went outside to release the monarch.

What an incredible moment it was!

First pool day for the CE1 to CM2...

Our swimmers are back in action! The students went to the pool for the first time this morning and you could feel excitement was in the air!

After reminders about safety rules, the students were invited to swim and show their moves to be able to separate them in different groups. The lessons started a little afterwards. At the end of the lesson, free play time in the little pool was very much appreciated by our students!

What is good for the body!

The CE1 and CE2 have been working on what is good (and less good) for the body. They were by 2 and worked together on establishing 2 lists : one for what is good to do and one for what is not good.

They had images that they cut and organized into 2 categories.

Our first biking trip of the season!

Today was such a gorgeous day! Perfect weather for biking!

We left the school this morning to head to Wolfe's Neck Farm. Everyone was really excited: some because it was their first bike ride with the school, some because they had a new bike to try, some others just because these field trips are so much fun!

We made different groups and started our adventures. We biked the trails around the farm and the camping, stopped to explore the shores...

Lunch time was then very much appreciated and welcome...

We biked some more in the afternoon...the older students went to Wolfe's Neck Park and explored the trails. The younger stayed around this morning's trails and visited the farm. They enjoyed the animals!

It was a wonderful day and we cannot wait to do it again very soon! Thank you to all the parents who came to help and bike with us!

Back to School...back to work...back to fun...

We are back in action! And a lot of exciting projects are happening in the classrooms.

The GS and CP started working on the "5 sens" and this week, they discovered about taste, "le goût", in parallel with their study of Eric Carle's book, The Hungry Caterpillar, "La Chenille qui fait des Trous".

They had tastings in class to experience the different "goûts", one with different fruits and vegetables, another with salt, sugar, bitter cocoa and lemon to experience "sucré, salé, amer, acide".

Lots of fun indeed learning about taste.

Alumni pique-nique "entre amis"

The school is hosting a pique-nique "entre amis" under the tent on the school grounds to celebrate the schools current and past families. Together students old and new are getting together for good food, music and fun as they get to see how those who graduated continued in life after L'École Française du Maine. The school is proud to recognize Jacob Hodsdon, who recently graduated from Saint Dominic Academy with an award for excellence in French. Bravo Jacob!


                                   

Growstown Field Trip

The English classes of Grades 4,5, and 6 recently visited Growstown Schoolhouse, a 'living history' schoolhouse located in Brunswick, where students participate in a day of school during the nineteenth century where the date wasn’t 2016, but 1853. Students prepared their costumes at home and brought appropriate lunches for the time period. 

While at the school, they participated in spelling, reading, memorization, geography, singing, and art, all while writing with a quill pen and ink. Arithmetic was skipped due to the fact that some of our scholars received 'punishments' for bad behavior. (Of course these punishments were not deserved; they were part of the 'acting'.) These punishments included noses to the chalkboard, wearing a cap in front of the class, and hanging by braids!  This may sound frightening, but our scholars enjoyed these ancient punishments!

Students also participated in recess by skipping rope and playing games that were enjoyed by students during the nineteenth century. And of course, don't forget students also used the privy, or outhouse, when needed.

 The Growstown trip was certainly a special and memorable day and will be cherished by all.
